The Kevin Hoffman Walk is located in Lara, Victoria. It runs alongside the eastern edge of Hovells Creek, stretching for approximately 900 metres between Station Lake Road and Flinders Avenue.
What is the main entrance address?
The main entrance is at 65 Walkers Road, Lara. You’ll find signs marking the entrance, and it’s easily located by searching “Kevin Hoffman Walk” on Google Maps.
How do I get there by public transport?
The Walk is a 10-15 minute walk from Lara Railway Station. The nearest bus stops are on Curletts Road, with a short walk to reach the Walk’s entrance.
Is parking available? If so, where?
Yes, free on-street parking is available nearby on Walkers Road, Wingara Drive, and Melrose Street. Please note: Melrose Street requires a slightly longer walk to reach the Walk.
Is there an entry fee to visit the Walk?
No! The Walk is free and open to everyone. It’s a public space created for the community to enjoy.
What are the opening hours?
The Walk doesn’t have formal opening hours, but it’s best enjoyed during daylight hours for safety and to appreciate the garden in full light.
Is the Walk open all year round?
Yes, the Walk is open year-round. Seasonal changes bring new colours, sounds and discoveries every month.
Is the Walk accessible for wheelchairs, prams, or all abilities?
Yes, the Walk is accessible for most wheelchairs, prams and mobility aids. While there are steps near the waterhole, an alternative step-free route is available utilising, Wingara Drive. Several locals with scooters and mobility devices use the Walk regularly. We’re continually working toward improving access for all visitors.

Are there any nearby amenities (e.g., toilets, cafes)?
There are no public toilets or facilities directly on the Walk, but nearby options include public toilets near the Lara Kindergarten in Waverley Road, at the Lara Library and next to Coles in the Lara Village Shopping Centre, as well as near-by cafes such as Anna’s Café, in The Centreway Shopping Centre.
How long is the Walk? Can it be part of a longer walk within Lara?
The Kevin Hoffman Walk is approximately 900 metres long, making it perfect for a short stroll. It also connects to longer shared paths throughout Lara, ideal for those wanting to extend their walk or ride.
How much time should I allow to How long is the Walk?
We recommend allowing at least 30–45 minutes to enjoy the Walk at a relaxed pace, especially if you like to stop, take photos, or soak in the natural beauty.
Is the pathway sealed or natural?
The path is compacted gravel — flat and easy to walk on. It’s not sealed, but it’s well-maintained and suitable for most levels of mobility.
What kind of plants and wildlife might I see?
The Walk features a wide variety of Australian native plants, from flowering shrubs to grasses and small trees. You might also spot birds, butterflies, frogs, and the occasional blue-tongue lizard basking in the sun.
Are there places to sit and rest along the way?
Yes, you’ll find a number of seats along the Walk — perfect for a rest, a chat, or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
Can I bring a picnic? Are there tables or grassy spots for picnics?
You’re welcome to bring a picnic! While there aren’t formal picnic tables, there are grassy areas near both ends of the Walk that are great for a laid-back lunch or snack.
Is drinking water available at the Walk?
Yes, there’s a drinking fountain available along the main path near the Walkers Road entrance, opposite the Bollards. It includes a built-in dog bowl, so both visitors and their pets can stay refreshed during their walk.
What’s the best time of year to visit for flowers and birdlife?
Spring is the peak season for wildflowers and bird activity, but each season brings its own charm — from summer textures and autumn tones to winter greenery and active birdlife.
Are there guided tours available?

Is the Walk suitable for children or families?
Definitely! The Walk is relatively flat, easy to navigate, and filled with interesting plants, birds, and textures for children to discover. Like all natural spaces, we recommend supervising young children, especially near the waterhole and creek edges. It’s a peaceful and engaging spot for a nature-based family outing.
Is the Walk lit at night? Can I visit after dark?
There’s no lighting along the Walk, so it’s best visited during daylight hours. This helps keep the environment safe and enjoyable for everyone — including our local wildlife.
Can I use the Walk for jogging or exercise?
Yes! The path is ideal for jogging and power walking. Many locals use it as part of their regular exercise routine — it’s a great way to get moving while enjoying the natural surrounds.
Can I bring my dog to the Walk?
Yes, dogs are very welcome at the Walk! Please keep them on a lead at all times and clean up after them as a courtesy to fellow visitors and to help protect the gardens and wildlife.

Are there dog litter bins provided?
There are bins at both ends of the Walk — one at the Station Lake Road entrance and another just across Flinders Avenue, where you’ll also find dog waste bags. We appreciate all visitors doing their part by cleaning up after their dogs and using these bins or taking waste home if needed.
Is there a place for my dog to have a drink?
Yes! There’s a drinking fountain with a built-in dog water bowl located along the main path, opposite the Bollards, near the Walkers Road entrance. Perfect for keeping your furry friend hydrated during your visit.
What wildlife might I see, and how should I interact with them?
You may see a variety of native birds, butterflies, frogs, lizards, and insects — and of course, the ducks at the waterhole. We encourage visitors to interact gently and respectfully with all wildlife, and to take time to quietly observe them in their natural environment. It’s their home, and we’re lucky to be guests.
Is feeding wildlife permitted?
Feeding the ducks at the waterhole is a tradition many families — including the Hoffman family — have enjoyed over the years. We simply ask that interactions are gentle and respectful, and encourage visitors to also take time to quietly observe the birds and other wildlife in their natural environment.
Can I take photos at the Walk?
Yes, photography is encouraged! The Walk is full of beautiful textures, native plants, and wildlife — a great place to practice your skills or capture nature’s beauty throughout the year.

How do I enter the photo competition?

How can I help look after the Walk?
There are many ways to help! You can join one of our regular Working Bees or Ramblin’ Rakers sessions, volunteer for a specific project, or simply help by following the Walk’s guidelines during your visit. Every small action counts.
Is picking flowers or taking plant cuttings permitted?
Picking flowers or taking cuttings is not allowed. Kevin created the Walk as a space for everyone to enjoy, and leaving the plants as they are means all visitors can experience their beauty — just as he intended.
Is it okay to walk off the pathways?
We kindly ask that you stay on the designated pathways to protect the plantings and wildlife habitats. This helps maintain the health of the garden and keeps the Walk safe for everyone.
What should I do with my rubbish?
There is a rubbish bin near the steps at the waterhole, but we kindly encourage visitors to take their rubbish home whenever possible. Leaving only footprints helps keep the Walk clean, natural, and welcoming for everyone.
Are there volunteer opportunities?
