The Friends of Kevin Hoffman Walk

The Friends of Kevin Hoffman Walk was formed in late 2013 as a support group and ambassador for The Kevin Hoffman Walk, Lara.  The group aims to support Kevin’s work and provide ongoing maintenance of the Kevin Hoffman Walk, in a partnership with the City of Greater Geelong council, to preserve this significant native garden for future generations to enjoy.

Our vision: To enrich our environment by perpetuating a free-flowing, ever-changing, awe-inspiring Australian native Garden for people of all ages, and attracts and nurtures native wildlife.
Our mission: Provide sustainable management and promote this Award- winning legacy for residents and visitors to this region through community engagement and successful partnership with associated organisations.
Our values:
  • The natural serenity of this recreational space provides health and well-being benefits essential to balance the regions’ growing population.
  • We respect our indigenous people for their history, culture of responsible custodianship and deep connection to this land.
  • We honour the dedicated, passionate work of Kevin Hoffman his family and supporters.

We have a plan of management with the City of Greater Geelong to preserve the gardens for the future….

… but there is always more work that needs to be done.

The Friends’ group have employed an expert Gardening contractor one day a week to help with maintenance, plant selection etc.

How can you help?

Volunteer. We have semi-regular working bees (see What’s On, the Lara Happenings or our Facebook page for more information) together with the Lara Lions. Our Gardener, Matt, also welcomes volunteers to work with him on a Wednesday. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us.

Become a member of the Friends of Kevin Hoffman Walk. Your membership helps us to do a number of things, such as replacing plants, reducing weeds, fixing irrigation and maintaining the paths. Our members and sponsors receive our bi-monthly e-newsletter “Down Lara’s Creek Garden” to keep them informed about the happenings down at ‘The Walk’.

Sponsorship, we are always on the lookout for businesses to partner with to ensure that Kevin’s great work can continue to be maintained into the future. We also apply for grant funding for projects.

Consider joining our small but active committee – you don’t have to know anything about plants or gardening. Your enthusiasm and a little bit of your time is all that’s required.

Fundraising, there are a number of fundraisers we hold a year, such as raffles and our calendar, produced from our annual amateur photo competition along the creek.

We accommodate group tours along the walk and will customize a tour to your needs, knowledge and abilities.
